Kick-off meeting of COST Action GREENERING
Green Chemical Engineering Network towards upscaling sustainable processes
In the frame of the programme COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology - the oldest tools to foster cooperation among researchers from various European countries), during the kick-off meeting in Brussels held on October 14th 2019, Ana Rita DUARTE from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of NOVA University of Lisbon was given the task of coordinating the activities of the project “Green Chemical Engineering Network towards upscaling sustainable processes - GREENERING”, with over 70 research teams from 28 COST countries.
The COST Action GREENERING team
GREENERING has the objective to promote and boost the industrial application of green chemistry and sustainable technologies, developing the tools for the scale-up and implementation of emerging processes into industries. GREENERING is focused on the four major factors that contribute for the faster growth of green chemistry: Collaboration, Technology Forcing, Compromise and Enhanced Education. GREENERING actions, such as conferences and seminars, summer schools, practical courses mentoring towards funding and commercialization, student/researcher mobility, the creation of new start-up companies and reinforced implementation of green technologies at the industrial level, will be the driving force for creating consumer awareness and influence on governmental regulations.
4 working groups have been created and have already started to work on various tasks. All aimed to provide opportunities for implementation of green processes at industrial scale - identification of target industries, analysis of patent portfolio, “industry friendly” training, scale-up assessment and tools, development of entrepreneurial skills, workshops and training schools.
